Chäserstatt - crisscrossing idyllic Valais mountain villages

open
  • start: Fiesch, public transport hub
  • destination: Fiesch, public transport hub

You ride from the public transport hub in Fiesch towards Lax, up to the tennis court at the outskirts of town. There you turn left, cross the Rotten bridge at the EW center, then ride a short distance cross-country until you reach the Binntal road. You follow this road uphill to Ernen, known for its beautiful village center with the Capuchin and Tellenhouse and the parish church of St. George. At the eastern exit of the village, it is best to take the field road running on the uphill side, along which you continue gently to Mühlebach. After a short flat section at the end of Mühlebach, you follow the well-rideable forest road that leads up in long serpentine bends to the Chäserstatt restaurant. There you find a splendid sun terrace from which you have a dreamy view of the Aletsch plateau and the lower Valais. On the way back, you take the same forest road up to shortly before Mühlebach. Then you turn sharply right heading east and ride via Steinhaus to Niederwald, where you cross the Rotten bridge. The last stage of the route leads downhill via the Furka road back to Fiesch.
