From the center of Riederalp, you initially hike east along the Aletsch promenade. At the level of the Hotel Walliser Spycher, change onto the winter hiking trail to Oberried. At first, the path leads you at the lower end of the sun plateau through open terrain in a westerly direction. Then you enter the enchanting snow-covered Riederwald. You walk calmly through it to Oberried. Once there, follow the road: Past the hamlets “Wyde”, “Matte” and “Summerseili”, you continue downhill to Ried-Mörel. From there you take the gondola back up to Riederalp or down to Mörel.

- Carefully plan every mountain hike and adapt it to your own fitness, the weather, and the season.
- The weather can change quickly in the mountains. Therefore, bring suitable clothing, enough provisions and water. Turn back in time if the weather is uncertain.
- Inform third parties about the route and if possible never go alone.
- Do not leave marked trails and do not go onto glaciers without a mountain guide.
- Walking on ski slopes is prohibited.
- Be considerate of other hikers as well as plants and animals.
- In any case, inform yourself about the local avalanche situation.

Due to the altitude and route, good footwear is absolutely essential for this winter hike.
Our recommendation:
- Winter, hiking or trekking shoes with good tread
- Possibly hiking poles
