From Fiescheralp it’s a leisurely start – 300 metres altitude gain on an evenly climbing gravel road. Perfect to get you warmed up and breathing deeply. Then it gets interesting: on the Märjela Enduro Loop, you enter an unlit tunnel that is around a kilometre long. Cool, wet, pitch black – pack a light or pull out your smartphone. Anyone who’s experienced it talks about it.
After a few minutes in the dark tunnel, the Märjela valley dazzles you all the more with the unique landscape it offers.
The way back is either easy via the same Aletsch Enduro Trail – or technically challenging via a single trail from Lake Märjela. After a short climb, you round the Täligrat – and get another full view of the Fiesch Glacier in the Aletsch Arena. Then the descent begins: rocky, challenging, exposed in places. For strong riders, the Märjela Enduro Loop can be ridden all the way. Shortly before the finish, there is one last climb – then you’re rolling back down to Fiescheralp.
Please note: The return journey along the trail is recommended for experienced riders only.
Highlights:
- 10-minute hike to the Platta – Aletsch Glacier from right up close and views all the way to the Jungfraujoch.
- Stop off at the Gletscherstube with its typical mountain hut specialities
- Exposed, rocky enduro section that takes you deep
- Panoramic vista of the Fiesch and Aletsch glaciers
