Via Heiligkreuz to Breithorn

open
  • start: Fiesch, public transport hub
  • destination: Fiesch, public transport hub

It starts at the public transport hub in Fiesch. You bike towards Lax, turn left at the tennis court on the outskirts of town, and cross the Rotten bridge near the EW power station. After a short off-road section, you reach the Binntal road and follow it to Ernen, known for its village square with the Capuchin and Tellen houses as well as the church of St. George. From Ernen, you follow the Binntal road up to the Binntal tunnel, which you bypass on the right via the unpaved field road through the Twingi Gorge. At the gorge exit, you pass the hamlet Ze Binne, which lies by a small reservoir, and follow the road towards Heiligkreuz. From Heiligkreuz, you must pedal hard as nearly 1,000 meters of elevation lie ahead on the unpaved road up to the Breithorn Pass. At the top, you will enjoy the magnificent view of the opposite Aletsch plateau, the Finsteraarhorn, and the Fiesch Glacier. After a well-deserved rest, you take the rapid descent down to the village of Grengiols. Just below the village, you turn right and ride under the MGB viaduct towards Furka road. Over this, with a last short ascent at the Deischer bend, you pass Lax and return to Fiesch.
